One person has died and nine others are missing, including a child, after a seaplane crashed over Mutini Bay in Washington state, US.

The causes of the accident are being investigated.

The plane was reportedly flying from Friday Harbor in the southern suburbs of Seattle. The accident was reported at 15:11 local time. The Coast Guard said that as of 9:00 p.m., one body had been recovered and nine people were still missing.

The search operation involved four coast guard ships, a rescue helicopter and an airplane, as well as the nearest rescue and law enforcement agencies.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board said it was a de Havilland DHC-3 Otter single-engine propeller seaplane.
