A group of deep-sea divers from Great Britain announced that they have located the wreckage of the American destroyer Jacob Jones off the English coast. The ship was sunk by a torpedo from a German submarine in 1917, at the height of the First World War.
This is reported by The New York Post. According to historians, only 46 out of 110 sailors managed to save themselves on rafts before the ship went to the bottom within 8 minutes.
According to some reports, after the sinking, the crew of a German submarine pulled out two prisoners of war from the cold waters and radioed the American base about the need for rescue ships. Due to the fact that the destroyer of more than 1,000 tons sank very quickly, the location of its shipwreck remained a mystery for more than a hundred years.
Earlier it became known that an American military ship was discovered in the Philippine Sea, which sank at a record depth of 6,895 meters.
